Cyberpunk 2077 Patch History: The Updates That Fixed the Game
See which Cyberpunk updates repaired the launch problems, rebuilt the RPG systems, changed mod compatibility, and still matter to returning players.

Cyberpunk 2077 patch history has two clear turning points: patch 1.5 made the troubled launch version much easier to recommend, then Update 2.0 rebuilt the core RPG systems. Today, patch 2.31 is the latest numbered release.
If you are returning after a long break, the version number matters more than the date you stopped playing. Anything written for 1.6 or earlier uses a different perk, cyberware, armor, police, and vehicle-combat system.
The version timeline in one minute
This is a milestone list, not every small hotfix. These are the updates that changed how the game played, ran, or worked with saves and mods.
| Version | What changed and why it matters |
|---|---|
| 1.1 and 1.2 Jan to Mar 2021 |
Stability, crashes, quest blockers, driving, and police behavior. This first repair wave made the launch build more reliable but did not redesign it. |
| 1.5 Feb 2022 |
Next-generation console support, AI, perks, economy, apartments, driving, and combat balance. This was the first version that felt like a broad relaunch. |
| 1.6 Sep 2022 |
Wardrobe, cross-progression, new gigs, weapons, and Edgerunners content. It was the last major update before the 2.0 systems rewrite. |
| 2.0 Sep 2023 |
New perks, cyberware, armor, police, vehicle combat, stamina, and level scaling. This is the main compatibility break for guides, builds, saves, and mods. |
| 2.1 Dec 2023 |
NCART metro, Radioport, replayable races, hangouts, accessibility, and balance changes. It added major requested features after the rebuild. |
| 2.2 Dec 2024 |
More character options, vehicle paint systems, and a larger Photo Mode. It expanded customization without another systems reset. |
| 2.3 Jul 2025 |
AutoDrive, Delamain cabs, new vehicles, more Photo Mode tools, and new platform support. It added substantial free features well after Phantom Liberty. |
| 2.31 Sep 2025 |
Better AutoDrive behavior, Photo Mode changes, and platform fixes. This is the latest numbered patch and the current end of the update timeline. |
Patch 1.5 was the first real turning point
If “fixed” means stable and complete enough for most players to reconsider the game, patch 1.5 is the best short answer. It arrived in February 2022 with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, but it was more than a graphics upgrade. CD Projekt Red also changed enemy and crowd AI, driving, perks, the economy, apartments, combat balance, and many quests.
Patch 1.6 then added the wardrobe system, cross-progression, Edgerunners content, new gigs, and more fixes. By the end of the 1.6 era, the game was far more stable than it had been at launch. It was still built on the original perk, armor, police, and cyberware systems, so it was not yet the version people play today.
Update 2.0 created a new version boundary
Update 2.0 was a free base-game update, not part of the paid Phantom Liberty expansion. It replaced the perk trees, rebuilt cyberware and armor, added a new police system and vehicle combat, changed stamina and healing, and raised the PC storage requirement to an SSD.
That makes 1.6 and 2.0 fundamentally different versions:
- A 1.6 build guide is obsolete. Perks and progression were replaced, not lightly adjusted.
- A pre-2.0 save can load, but it needs rebuilding. CD Projekt Red allowed existing saves while recommending a fresh playthrough for the full experience.
- Pre-2.0 mods should be removed before updating. Script frameworks and gameplay mods written for the old executable can stop the game from launching.
- PlayStation 4 and Xbox One stay on the legacy 1.6 branch. The 2.x updates are for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with Mac and Nintendo Switch 2 joining later.
For practical purposes, 2.0 is when Cyberpunk 2077 became the current game. Patch 1.5 repaired and expanded the launch version; Update 2.0 replaced its foundations.
The later 2.x updates added features and polish
Updates 2.1 through 2.31 did not cause another break as large as 2.0. They added the metro, Radioport, replayable races, more accessibility settings, character and vehicle customization, AutoDrive, Delamain cabs, new vehicles, Photo Mode tools, graphics features, and a long list of fixes.
They can still disrupt a modded installation. Cyberpunk’s script extenders and framework mods often depend on a specific executable version. After an update, the game may fail to launch until those core mods are updated, even when the base game itself is working correctly.
Which version should you play now?
Playing without mods: use the newest build available for your platform. It contains the full repair work, the 2.0 systems, later features, and the newest fixes.
Returning from version 1.6 or earlier: expect new perks, cyberware limits, armor rules, police behavior, vehicle combat, and tougher PC requirements. An old save can work, but starting again is the cleaner way to learn the rebuilt systems.
Playing with mods: back up your saves and mod list before updating. Check that your script extender and framework mods support the new game version first. Our Cyberpunk 2077 fix guide covers the update routine and common crash-on-launch causes.
